What to Expect at Your Child's First Martial Arts Class

What to Expect at Your Child's First Martial Arts Class

The short answer: your child's first class is a friendly, private small-group intro — not a scary jump into a room full of strangers. A coach walks them through the basics at their pace, so they leave smiling and proud. Shy kids especially do great, because being welcomed and "seen" is the entire point.

"Will my shy child be okay?"

This is the question nearly every parent asks, and it's why we do things differently. New kids and teens (ages 5–16) start with a private small-group intro class before they ever join a regular class — no pressure to keep up, no getting lost in a crowd. Just a coach making your child feel comfortable, capable, and excited to come back. We've watched hundreds of nervous kids walk in unsure and walk out beaming.

What actually happens in class

Every Crush class follows the same friendly rhythm, and that structure is the discipline: a welcome and announcements, stretching, then the fun part — footwork, punches, kicks and knees on the pads, and a game or challenge along the way. Class ends with a formal bow-out and handshakes. Your child learns confidence, focus, respect, and hard work while genuinely having a blast, because our teaching philosophy is simple: keep it fun.
